Yacht Wedding Routes in Abu Dhabi: Corniche, Emirates Palace, Lulu Island and the Mangroves

There are four routes a wedding yacht sails in Abu Dhabi, and the right one depends on three things: the backdrop you want behind the ceremony, the marina you leave from, and how many hours you have booked. The Corniche and Emirates Palace route gives you the skyline; Lulu Island gives you the skyline with still water; the mangrove channels give you calm and green; and the Saadiyat route gives you beaches and the Louvre's dome. This guide describes each one as the captain would, so you can pick a route before you pick a boat.

Two marinas, two starting points

Every route starts at either Al Bateen Marina or Yas Marina, and the choice shapes what you can reach in the time you have.

  • Al Bateen Marina is on the western shore of the main island. From here the Corniche, Emirates Palace, Etihad Towers and Lulu Island are all close, so a two-hour charter includes the skyline without hurrying.
  • Yas Marina is on Yas Island, on the eastern side of the city. From here the Yas waterfront, Saadiyat Island and the calmer channels near the mangroves are the natural reach, and the skyline routes suit a longer charter.

You do not need to plan the navigation. Tell us where you want to be when the vows happen and the captain works backwards from that moment to set the departure time and the pace.

Route one: the Corniche and Emirates Palace

The signature Abu Dhabi route. The boat leaves Al Bateen, rounds the western tip of the island, and runs along the Corniche with the city on one side and open water on the other. Emirates Palace sits low and golden at the western end; Etihad Towers rise behind it; the Corniche beach and its towers stretch east.

  • Where the boat stops: off Emirates Palace, turned so the palace and towers are behind the couple. In the last hour of daylight the light comes from the water side and the buildings glow.
  • Best for: the classic skyline ceremony photo, and couples who want guests to recognise the city instantly.
  • Hours: works in two hours from Al Bateen; three hours lets you add a slow pass along the whole Corniche after the cake.
  • Sea state: usually gentle inside the bay; the captain decides on the day and will keep the boat in the calmest water for the ceremony.

Route two: Lulu Island

Lulu Island is the long, low island that sits just off the Corniche. Sailing behind it puts the boat in sheltered water with the city skyline still in view across the island, which is why we suggest it for ceremonies where a perfectly steady deck matters more than a close-up of the towers.

  • Where the boat stops: in the channel between Lulu and the Corniche, or on the island's outer side for a quieter, open-water feel.
  • Best for: house boat ceremonies with a floral arch and aisle, older guests, and anyone who wants the water as flat as it can be.
  • Hours: two hours from Al Bateen is enough; combine with route one in three hours for skyline portraits afterwards.

Route three: the mangrove channels

The mangroves are on the eastern side of the city, and the channels between them are narrow, green and glassy. There are no towers here; the backdrop is water, roots, herons and sky. The boat moves slowly by nature of the channels, and the sound of the city disappears.

  • Where the boat stops: in a wide section of channel where the captain can hold position with the mangroves on both sides.
  • Best for: small weddings and vow ceremonies that want privacy and calm; morning charters when the light is soft and the birds are active.
  • Hours: closest from Yas Marina, where two hours works; from Al Bateen, allow three hours because the boat has to travel around the island first.
  • Boats: the mangrove route suits the intimate boats and the smaller house boats best; ask us which of your shortlist can enter the channels comfortably on the day.

Route four: Saadiyat Island and the Louvre

From Yas Marina the boat runs along the Yas waterfront and out toward Saadiyat, where the beaches are long and the Louvre Abu Dhabi's dome sits at the water's edge. This is the route for open water and horizon rather than a wall of towers.

  • Where the boat stops: off the Saadiyat coast with the dome or the beach behind the couple, or in open water for a horizon-only frame at sunset.
  • Best for: sunset ceremonies, couples whose guests are staying on Yas, and weddings that want a beach feel without leaving the boat.
  • Hours: three hours from Yas is comfortable; four hours adds a night-lit return with the Yas waterfront on one side.

Matching the route to the hours

The minimum charter is two hours (three on Miss Kim House Boat). As a rule of thumb: two hours covers one route and one stop; three hours covers two routes or one route with a long reception stretch; four hours covers a ceremony on one route, a sunset on another and a lit skyline on the way home. The hourly rate is on each boat page, and the package price includes the wedding decoration and the cake, so the route does not change what is included. See the decoration page for how the deck is dressed for a skyline ceremony versus a mangrove one; the palette often changes with the backdrop.

Boats that sail these routes well

  • Lavy Luxury Yacht, 30 guests. Two decks and built-in evening lighting, so the lit return along the Corniche looks as good from the water as the city does from the deck.
  • 68 Ft Super Yacht, 16 guests. Fast enough to combine the Corniche and Lulu Island in a short charter and refined enough for the Emirates Palace frame.
  • 62 Ft Tecno Yacht, 18 guests. A flybridge for portraits on the Saadiyat route and a sheltered saloon for the return.

Frequently asked questions

Can we see the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque from the water?

The mosque is visible from the water on some approaches around the island, though it is not a stop on these four routes. If a glimpse matters to you, tell us and the captain will say what is realistic for your marina and hours.

Can we combine two routes?

Yes. The most common pairing is Lulu Island for the ceremony and the Corniche for portraits, from Al Bateen in three hours. Saadiyat plus the mangroves from Yas is another good pairing in three to four hours.

Who decides the route on the day?

You choose the backdrop and the moment; the captain decides the path and the timing, and adjusts for wind and traffic on the water. If conditions rule out one route, the captain proposes the closest alternative and the team confirms with you on WhatsApp.

Do routes change in summer?

The routes stay the same; the timing shifts. From June to September most couples sail after sunset, when the Corniche is lit and the air is cooler, and daytime charters favour the sheltered water behind Lulu Island.
