How to Plan a Luxury Yacht Wedding in Abu Dhabi

Planning a luxury yacht wedding in Abu Dhabi comes down to five decisions: how many guests you will host, which boat fits them, which marina you sail from, how many hours you charter, and what time of day you want the ceremony. Get those right and the rest, from the floral arch to the cake cutting, falls into a timeline the crew runs for you. This guide walks through each decision in the order a planner would take them, using the real fleet of thirteen boats that sail from Yas Marina and Al Bateen Marina.

Start with the guest list, not the boat

Every boat on the water has a fixed capacity that includes the couple, and a captain will not exceed it. Our fleet runs from 15 to 40 guests, so the first honest number you need is a final head count, not a hopeful one. Count children as guests. Count the photographer and any musician you bring as guests. Once you have that figure, the fleet splits neatly:

  • Up to 15 or 16 guests: the intimate boats such as Marina Villa, Al Maharia S, Maya Luxury Boat and the 68 Ft Super Yacht.
  • 18 to 25 guests: the 62 Ft Tecno Yacht, Haya House Boat, the 90 Ft Saadiyat House Boat and Princess Yacht.
  • 30 to 40 guests: Lavy Luxury Yacht, King House Boat, Miss Kim House Boat and the two House Boat Luxury M1 and M2, which each take 40.

There is a second choice hidden inside the head count: yacht or house boat. A yacht gives you a classic silhouette, a flybridge and the feeling of motion through the water. A house boat gives you a wide, flat, single-level deck that seats a full reception at tables and makes an aisle easy. Neither is better; they suit different weddings. You can browse the whole wedding fleet with capacities on one page.

A realistic planning timeline

Yacht weddings are simpler to plan than a ballroom because the venue, the crew, the decoration and the cake come as one package. Still, dates around weekends and the cooler months go early. A comfortable sequence looks like this:

  1. Ten to twelve weeks out: fix the guest count, message us on WhatsApp with your preferred date and two backup dates, and choose the boat. Pay the deposit to lock it.
  2. Six weeks out: settle the decoration style and colours. The package price already includes the wedding decoration, so this is a conversation about look, not budget. See what is possible on the yacht decoration page.
  3. Four weeks out: confirm the cake design and flavour, which is also included in the package. Book your photographer and, if you want one, a musician or DJ.
  4. Two weeks out: send guests the marina name, the exact boarding time and a note on footwear (soft soles, no stilettos on teak).
  5. One week out: share the final head count and the running order with the team so the crew can plan the route around your ceremony moment.
  6. The day before: we confirm the weather picture and the boarding time on WhatsApp. The captain has the final say on sea conditions.

Choose the marina and the route

Two departure points serve the fleet, and they give you different backdrops.

Al Bateen Marina sits on the western side of the main island. From here the boat is minutes from the Corniche, Emirates Palace, Etihad Towers and Lulu Island, so a two-hour charter still delivers the skyline shots couples come for. It is the natural choice if your ceremony photo needs the city behind you.

Yas Marina is on Yas Island, close to the airport and the island hotels, which makes it convenient for guests flying in or staying on Yas. Routes from here run along the Yas waterfront and out toward Saadiyat Island and the calmer channels near the mangroves.

You do not need to design the route yourself. Tell us where you want to be when the vows happen (skyline behind you, open water, or the calm of the mangrove channels) and the captain times the cruise so the boat is there, slowed or stopped, at that moment.

How many hours to book

The minimum charter is two hours on every boat except Miss Kim House Boat, which starts at three. Two hours works for a ceremony, the cake and photographs with a small group. For most weddings we suggest thinking in blocks:

  • Two hours: boarding, a short cruise, ceremony at the chosen backdrop, cake cutting, photographs, return. Best for up to about 20 guests with no seated meal.
  • Three hours: adds a proper reception stretch with music and a served meal or buffet, and a sunset without rushing.
  • Four hours: ceremony, golden-hour portraits, dinner, dancing and a night-lit return past the city. This is the block most couples with 30 to 40 guests choose.

Rates are hourly and shown live on each boat page, so a longer charter is a transparent calculation rather than a negotiation.

What is included and what you arrange

The package price covers the boat, the captain and crew, fuel within the agreed route, the wedding decoration and the wedding cake. That is the venue, the styling and the centrepiece dessert handled in one booking. Read the details on the custom wedding cake page.

You arrange, or ask us to coordinate, the pieces that are personal to you: catering, a photographer and videographer, a musician or DJ, and any officiant or family elder who leads the ceremony. If you tell us what you have booked, the crew builds the timeline around it, including where the DJ sets up and when the caterer needs the galley.

Three yachts that suit a luxury wedding

For couples who want the yacht silhouette rather than a house boat, these three cover the common guest counts:

  • 68 Ft Super Yacht, 16 guests. The most refined lines in the fleet, a sunpad at the bow for the couple and an aft deck that becomes the ceremony space. Ideal for an elegant wedding with immediate family.
  • 62 Ft Tecno Yacht, 18 guests. A flybridge yacht with shaded upper seating for portraits and a lower deck for the ceremony. The best all-rounder for a wedding of 15 to 18.
  • Lavy Luxury Yacht, 30 guests. Two decks, evening lighting built into the boat, and room for a small dance floor. Choose this when the reception matters as much as the ceremony.

What the crew does on the day

A wedding charter is not a boat with a driver. The crew boards guests at the marina, assigns seating, briefs everyone on where they can stand and where the rail is off limits, and keeps the deck clear of trip hazards once the decoration is in place. During the cruise, the captain holds the boat steady for the ceremony and again for the cake cutting, and slows for portraits at the landmarks you asked for. One crew member stays with the couple as a point of contact so nobody has to leave the celebration to ask a question. At the end, the crew brings the boat alongside, helps guests off and hands over anything left on board.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should we book?

Two to three months is comfortable for a weekend date in the cooler season. Weekday dates and summer evenings can often be arranged with a few weeks notice. Message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you what is open.

Can we hold the legal ceremony on the boat?

The boat is the celebration venue. Whether the formal contract can be signed on board depends on your officiant and your circumstances, so most couples complete the paperwork on land and hold the ceremony, vows and celebration at sea. We can tell you what other couples have done.

What happens if the weather turns?

The captain decides on the day whether conditions are safe and comfortable. If a charter cannot sail, the team confirms options on WhatsApp, usually a new time or date. Abu Dhabi weather is stable for most of the year, so this is rare.

Is the decoration really included?

Yes. The wedding decoration and the wedding cake are part of the package price on every boat. The boat page shows today's rate for the hours you choose.

Ready to plan yours?

Tell us your guest count and preferred date and we will suggest the right boat and a running order for the day. Read more on the wedding yacht Abu Dhabi service page or message us on WhatsApp at +971 50 503 7702.
