Wedding Yacht for 40 Guests in Abu Dhabi: House Boats That Fit a Full Reception

Forty guests is the top of what a private wedding boat in Abu Dhabi can carry, and only two boats in our fleet are licensed for it: House Boat Luxury M1 and House Boat Luxury M2, both rated for 40. Every other boat stops at 30 or below, so a 40-guest wedding is not a matter of choosing a style; it is a matter of choosing between these two house boats and then planning the reception around their two decks. This guide explains why the number is a hard limit, how a full reception actually fits on a house boat, and how boarding, seating, food and the cake run when there are forty people on board.

Why 40 is a hard ceiling, not a target

A boat's capacity is set by its licence, and it counts every person on board who is not crew. That includes the couple, children of any age, the photographer, a DJ or musician, and anyone helping with hair or dress. If you plan for 40 guests and then add a photographer and a videographer, you are at 42 and the captain cannot sail. So the first job for a large wedding is to write a list of everyone who will step on board, not only the guests, and to keep that total at 40 or under.

The practical consequence is that 40-guest weddings are usually planned as 36 to 38 guests plus vendors. If your family list is a true 40 without vendors, tell us on WhatsApp and we will help you decide what to drop; nobody wants to turn a cousin away at the pontoon.

The two boats that take 40

  • House Boat Luxury M1, 40 guests. A wide covered main deck with a glass-walled saloon and an open upper deck. The covered deck is where the reception sits; the upper deck is for the ceremony, the photos and the guests who want air.
  • House Boat Luxury M2, 40 guests. The sister boat, with a long saloon lined with sofas along both sides, an artificial-grass foredeck and a railed open upper deck with armchairs and side tables. It photographs beautifully against the skyline from either marina.

Both are flat-decked house boats rather than motor yachts, which is exactly what you want at this size. A flat deck has no steps between the seating and the rail, the saloon runs the full width of the boat, and the boat sits steady at anchor while forty people move around. See the full fleet for how they compare with the 30-guest boats.

How a full reception fits on two decks

The mistake couples make when they picture 40 guests on a boat is imagining everyone in one room. On M1 and M2 the day is split across levels, and the split is what makes it comfortable.

Upper deck: ceremony and the couple's photographs

The open upper deck takes the arch, a short aisle and guests standing or seated in a horseshoe. Forty people standing on the upper deck for a fifteen-minute ceremony is easy; forty people seated in rows is not, so we set a few chairs for older guests and let everyone else stand at the rail with the skyline behind the couple. After the vows the deck clears for the couple's portraits while guests go down to the saloon.

Main deck saloon: the seated reception

The saloon is lined with long sofas and low tables. That is a lounge layout, not a banquet layout, and it suits a yacht wedding better than round tables would: guests sit in groups of six to eight along the sofas, the food is served from a buffet or passed by the crew, and nobody is stuck at a table with their back to the view. The cake table goes at the end of the saloon by the glass doors, where the light is best and where everyone can see the cutting.

Foredeck and aft deck: the overflow

The open foredeck and aft area give the smokers, the teenagers and the guests who want a quieter conversation somewhere to go. On a 40-guest wedding these corners are what stop the saloon from feeling crowded.

Boarding forty people without a queue

Boarding is the part of a large wedding that needs the most discipline. Both marinas, Yas Marina and Al Bateen Marina, have a fixed pontoon and the crew hand each guest across the gangway one at a time. Forty guests at a comfortable pace take twenty to thirty minutes, so:

  1. Put a boarding time on the invitation that is forty-five minutes before departure, and say clearly that the boat leaves on time.
  2. Ask guests to arrive in one or two groups by minibus rather than forty separate cars; it removes the parking search and gets everyone to the pontoon together.
  3. Have the couple board last, or board first and wait in the saloon, so the entrance is a moment rather than a shuffle.
  4. Send us the final headcount two days before, so the crew know exactly who they are expecting.

Food and drink for 40 on a house boat

The galley on M1 and M2 is for plating, chilling and reheating; it is not a restaurant kitchen. Food for forty arrives prepared from your caterer and the crew lay it out. What works:

  • A buffet along one side of the saloon for a three-hour charter, with the crew clearing plates as they go.
  • Passed canapés and platters for a two-hour charter, which keeps guests mobile.
  • A drinks station at the saloon entrance so nobody walks through the ceremony deck carrying trays.
  • Arabic coffee and tea from the trolley after the cake, which is traditional and gives the last half hour a rhythm.

The wedding cake is part of the package price and is designed with you on the custom cake page. For forty guests we usually suggest three tiers so that the cutting photograph reads well from the far end of the saloon and there is a slice for everyone.

Hours: what 40 guests need

Two hours is the minimum charter, and for forty guests it is tight: by the time everyone has boarded, cruised out, watched the ceremony and cut the cake, you are turning for home. Three hours is the honest recommendation for a 40-guest reception with food; four hours if you want a sunset ceremony, a served meal and a lit return under the Corniche. The boat page for each house boat shows the package price for the hours you select.

If the list shrinks to 30

Lists change. If your final count lands at 30 or under, you have three more boats to consider and it is worth looking at them, because a 30-guest boat full is better than a 40-guest boat half empty:

  • King House Boat, 30 guests, with a shaded upper deck and a warm wood-panelled lounge.
  • Miss Kim House Boat, 30 guests, with a three-hour minimum and an elegant saloon that dresses well for a ceremony.
  • Lavy Luxury Yacht, 30 guests, if you prefer the yacht look over a house boat.

Frequently asked questions

Do children count toward the 40?

Yes. Capacity counts every person on board who is not crew, whatever their age. A baby in arms is a person on the licence.

Can two boats sail together for a bigger wedding?

We can charter two boats for the same date and cruise the same route in company, but each boat has its own captain and its own capacity, and guests cannot move between them at sea. It suits a wedding where one boat carries the couple's close family and the second carries friends.

Is there a dance floor for 40?

The saloon floor on M1 and M2 is clear once the low tables are moved to the sides, and the boat's sound system covers it. A DJ can set up by the saloon doors. Music hours depend on the day and the captain confirms them with you before departure.

Which marina is better for 40 guests?

Both work. Yas Marina has more parking and hotels within walking distance, which suits guests staying on Yas Island; Al Bateen Marina is closer to the Corniche and Emirates Palace for the cruise. Tell us where most guests are staying and we will suggest the departure point.
